Fantasy Congress Post #6

With my Fantasy Congress team i eneded up at number 10. Through out the entire time i was always going back and forth but i was consistently in the top 10. I learned that if you have people who are in the news and the media puts alot of emphasis on them, then you gain alot of points. People who are constantly being covered by the media and spoken about tend to be more active and involved in the goverment. Also people with alot of legislations and ideas gain alot of points in Congress. If there was one thing that i could change, it would be the attendance. I wish that the attendance did not matter as much because then my team would have been in the top 5 =) besides that everything made sense on the way we earned points.

Sen. Barack Obama introduced a resolution on last Thursday that says President Bush does not have authority to use military force against Iran. Because Iran is making weapons of mass destruction, and gaining nuclear power. Obamas resolution says any offensive military action against Iran must be explicitly authorized by Congress, and seeks to clarify that nothing approved so far provides that authority. Relating this event to some of the things we have spoken about in class i see a clear example of how the Checks and Balance's work how Congress is excerising their power, and in Chapter 10 reading about the Elections and actually how candidates work. All of a sudden the candidates running for the elections become more aware of what the president is doing and begin to come up with reolutions and legislations. This also helps the American public see these actions and choose weather they are going to vote Prospective (responsible party), Median, 0r Retrospective (reward and punishment).

This Article also states how Barack Obama has introduced this resolution and gives the same details as CNN, but the tehran times states how president Bush threatened Iran if they continue to produce these nuclear weapons and that there would be a possibilty of a World WarIII.

Fantasy Congress Post #5

BeutifulA's team has been in the top spot for quit some time now. I belive the reason that her team has remained so well is because of the attendance which my team lacks and is having a problem in maintaining, and also the Mavericks which I dont have such a good score in , but her team has very high numbers in that as well. I keep dropping down i began with the fourth spot but went down to the elevnth only because of those two category's.

Fantasy Congress #4

I dropped one of my rookies Dona Christensin because her attendance was 35% she did not have many legislations or cosponsors and i felt as though she was dragging my team down. I have added Dan Boren who is also a Democrat, he is getting his legislations passed, has a good number of cosponsors and has an attendance in the 90's percentile which is a good change for my team.

Part A :
After observing page 261 and 274 what is being presented is the Presidential Election out come by social groups. On page 261 it is the election during the 2000 voting period, the graph gives data on groups such as age, education, race, income, and gender. On page 274 the graphs changed to the voting outcome in 2004 and it shows who voted for President Bush, and the social groups that voted for John Kerry. The conclusions that I can draw from page 264 are that in the racial group Whites and African Americans hold the largest percentage in voter outcome. In the gender group women have a 3% gain over the men. In age the more older you are the more you vote, the highest percentage is those in the 45-74 age group because they have established who they are and so they want to get involved. Education wise the higher the degree the more involved one is with voting, and lastly the higher one’s income is the better percentage of voting. Meanwhile on page 274 the graph shows us who voted Democratic versus Republican. Women, minorities, non high school graduates, post college graduates, horrible financial situations, and the Jewish community all voted for John Kerry who is a Democrat, meanwhile the rest all voted for George Bush who is a Republican. The other side would be those whom are older, the white race, house holds with high incomes and etc. Nothing has been omitted all of the information provided has been turned in good use letting us know the tactics of a variety of social groups.

Part B:
The Charts in pages 261 and 274 has two sides in suggesting that people are aware of and have taken into consideration the struggles by past Americans to gain the right to vote. The first side is those people with higher education levels, and higher incomes whom tend to have a higher percentage of voting have the knowledge that there ancestors have struggled and they appreciate it. Those whom are not as educated or have higher incomes and there voting rates are poor is because they have no been privileged in learning what the history of voting is. Also, age plays a large role in voting. The older an individual is the more experience they have gained such as working, bringing in an income, paying taxes, and taking care of a family. Once these responsibilities have been taken, that’s when they know that value of their vote. On page 274 the groups that voted for Democrats are all those groups whom have also struggled such as women and minorities. Yes, I think people should vote because this is what base of this country was established on, the right to vote for a leader suited to govern the country, and keep the rights of the people.

Donna Christensen (D) and Dennis Kucinich (D) are the two people on my team who are not doing good at all, its as though they are just sitting ducks and have not done one good thing. They have no legeslations and one of them has poor attendance. My two best team players are
Barbara Boxer (D) and Barack Obama (D) they have passed the most legislations, they have been in the news, and there attendance level is pretty high. I believe the reason why they are doing so well is because they are Senators and the media's attention is always on them. They also have higher responsibilites then a rookie and a starting line up.

Why i choose my team for FC

I choose all Democrats because as we can tell the table is turning and Democrats are slowly getting control again. Everyone on my team has accomplished many great things and are WELL known Senators, Representatives, and etc... They have high attentadence, high legislations passed, great ideas, and are the key to the future of America. A very strong team. Another reason is 4 of the Senators that i choose have the greatest support from the American public. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are running for the presidency, and Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein have the support of the largest state in America (California). Lastly, i am a Democrat with some Republican morals.
